The Well

Bob and Sabre at the PropertyTerri was in California, Doug and Kristy were in school, and Bob was in Park County with Sabre.  The well was witched by a local witcher; the well digger won't pick a spot.

The drilling was done in a single day and the casing and cap was finished on the second day.

The well pump is a German-made Grundfoss - very efficient and compatible with solar power.

Drilling

The long white tube moves the drilling material (mud, mostly) away from the rig to prevent creating a big puddle.

Water, foam, and dirt
Water, foam, and dirt

The drilling rig uses a mixture of air, water and detergent to create a foamy slurry that lifts the dirt and rock out of the drilled hole and sprays it onto the high chaparal.  The foam is injected through the drill bit and the material is lifted to the surface.

Water!
Water!

When there was more water than foam being ejected, we had reached water!  It took several days for the soapy taste to go away.  We had the water tested by the State Laboratory and it is safe for human consumption right out of the ground :o)

Well done!
Well done!

As it turns out, a successful well project costs about the same price as a dry hole.

Success is much preferred!
